I have dual boot Linux and Linux Mint.
I use Arch Linux over a year and this did not happen, but since January and February my Thinkpad T60 keeps shutting down. I looked at the logs and was saying it was because of the temperature and with time started to shut down "for no reason". I started using Mint more often to see if it would be the same, but in Mint the system will not shut down.
I decided to reinstall Arch Linux to see if it solved, but it did not resolve and now it is shutting down / rebooting. Please help me

Did you install sensors (lm-sensors) and thinkfan? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fan_speed_control
Check with sensors how hot the machine really gets on both Linux installation.
Check at what speed the fans are running.
What about cpupower and p4-modclock, do you run on the same CPU frequency on both installations?

Yeah, sensors-detect and sensors are awesome programmes for seeing what your cpu clock and fans are doing. I used it for month on my server after I upgraded its fans.
Architecture: pentium4, Testing repos: Yes, Hardware: EeePC 901+2GB RAM+OS half on the SD card.

After I created the topic my thinkpad did not turn off anymore and the temperature was between 60°C (celsius) and 78°C (celsius). The only other thing I did was take the battery out of the laptop.

Before formatting I had both (lm-sensors and thinkfan) installed. In this new installation I only have lm-sensors.

Before I format the temperature in the Arch and the Mint is between 80°C (celsius) and 96°C (celsius). In the new Arch installation between 60°C (celsius) and 78°C (celsius). From the mint I did not check, but probably should be the same temperature since I did not format it.

From what I remember the same speed 3462 RPM

I don't know. I have to check it out.
For the moment removing the battery solved the problem.
Thanks.
