I have an old Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pro V2055 laptop, that I have installed arch linux on. I installed the xf86-video-openchrome drivers and unichrome-dri and mesa packages. But when I try to turn startx I get this:

It's not clear to me what argument it's talking about. After that point it just unwinds in a relatively clean manner. That frame buffer seems to be the maximum size of the graphics adaptor, which seems a reasonable default.

How do I exactly enable the DRM module in the kernel?

It's a compile time option. You could build the kernel yourself, or the best option I reckon is to wait for abumann's triggered rebuilds to get uploaded to whatever mirror you're using, so just do an upgrade with # pacman -Syu and see if they're ready yet.

Could it be that my laptops chipset is not compatible? I don't know the exact chipset, it just says "VIA UniChrome Pro"
Offline
It could be. You've installed the first build of that LTS kernel there, which isn't that new, so I wouldn't expect to contain abumann's proposed fix though. I note there is a 1.1 build of the 5.8.10 kernel which might be his build or it might not. It seems to have been built a couple of hours before his post saying he's rescheduled it, so then again maybe not. That's all in the testing repos though, so you'll need to enable them in order to test this.
I suspect you've got a VIA C3 graphics chipset there, from my recollection of ddging about your laptop. I'm not sure that tells us much on its own though.
So TLDR; I think the fix isn't ready yet. Hold your fire. Spend the time learning tmux and links I reckon.

Do you have kernel 5.8.10 (linux)? The package usually takes a while to build and get throught staging/testing.
What's the output of:
zgrep DRM_VIA /proc/config.gz
(it should say CONFIG_DRM_VIA=m)
Check the dmesg output to see if the DRM module has been loaded.
Check with lsmod if the DRM module vor VIA is loaded.
Eventually load the module by hand:
modprobe -v via
insmod /lib/modules/5.8.10-arch1-1.1/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/via/via.ko.xz
Offline
I'm on kernel 5.8.10-arch1-1.1.
Output of
zgrep DRM_VIA /proc/config.gz
is
CONFIG_DRM_VIA=m
I can't find anything in dmesg that would explicitly state that DRM module for VIA is loaded but here's the full output

Aha, so the VIA DRM module loads. :-)
But now check your kernel boot parameters:
- Do _NOT_ put nomodeset or vga=xxx in there
- Maybe force KMS by setting a boot parameter "via.modeset=1".
Offline
- Maybe force KMS by setting a boot parameter "via.modeset=1".
Where should I put it (the "via.modeset=1")? I don't have neither "vga=xxx" nor "nomodeset" in my kernel boot parameters.
EDIT: I've tried to change settings from grub by pressing "e", no luck, the same error. If you could be more specific I would really appreciate it, I've never done this before.

Kernel boot parameters are indeed accessed by editing your kernel calling line which I recall is the 'e' key in grub. Just adding it after a space to the kernel line you're editing should be enough, so if that did nothing then that's disappointing.
Architecture: pentium4, Testing repos: Yes, Hardware: EeePC 901+2GB RAM+OS half on the SD card.
Offline
The kernel parameters are described here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ke … eters#GRUB
But acutally https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=240369 tells me the usual
story of the kernel dropping random stuff.
I would try first to get VESA working, at least you have some graphical output then.
