[SOLVED] Unicode filenames problem

(I don't even know if this is the right place to post this, this is my 1st post on this forum)

I just installed Arch 32 this morning and I have a problem with unicode filenames:
Some software like mousepad will happily open these files with unicode names, but others like LibreOffice or Archive manager (file-roller) just gives up.
Using ls in the terminal renders the unicode characters garbage. I know a thing or two about localization and UTF-8 (my locale is set to US English UTF-8) but the Vietnamese IME I am currently using (ibus-unikey) does not have support for UTF-8.
I just need this Pentium 4 for about 2 months for general schoolwork, then I will be done. Can anyone help me with this naming problem? Thanks in advance

edit: nevermind, I forgot to generate the locales during setup
